DREAM - 6 Ways to Know Your Dream
By: Daniel Mow
For those of you who are new to the statement, “Dream. Create. Repeat.” I would like to kick off this blog by diving into the essence of these elements in hopes that, together, we may find our lives filled with joy, success, and fulfillment.
What is your DREAM?
This simple question can be both profoundly exciting and intimidating. Perhaps a few other ways to phrase this question would be, “What is my purpose?” or “Why am I here on Earth?” Here are a few thoughts that I hope provide you with some direction and spark a meaningful internal conversation as you seek to discover your ultimate dream and purpose:
6. If money wasn't a factor and you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do? — Critical resources, including finances, are attracted to people who are moving forward in life. Keep moving forward.
5. What excites me? — What are you passionate about? What do you find yourself thinking about throughout the day on a regular basis?
4. What irks me? — Are there everyday items or systems you interact with that just do not function as well as you think they should? Chances are good there might be other people who feel the same way you do and would be willing to pay for a product or service that provides a solution for the inconvenience or frustration you feel.
3. What am I curious about? — Great purpose is often found in one’s own curiosity. I fully believe God takes great joy seeing us seek out the mysteries of His creation in a perpetual state of wide-eyed awe and wonder. Curiosity keeps us sharp but also keeps us humble, knowing there is always something new to learn. Curiosity is a great cure for boredom. I have to confess, I can’t remember the last time I was bored. A hunger to learn and grow keeps me growing in the direction of my pursuits and a healthy sense of curiosity will do the same for you. A poet named Dorothy Parker once said, “The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.”
2. What angers me? — Is there something you see in the world that is just…wrong? Human Trafficking? Starving children? Be a part of the solution—get out there and do something about it!
And finally, I saved the best and most important one for last:
1. What does my Maker have to say about my purpose? — Thankfully, God’s Word is absolutely full of great advice for each of us to find our purpose and reason for being here on Earth. And who could possibly know better than the one who made us each so gloriously unique and individual? The following are just a few of the many things He has to say regarding this matter in His Word:
- “For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) — God is a good God. He loves us and wants the best for us. The truth is we live in a fallen, sinful world. We have each been individually hand-crafted to be a light in a dark place—to be personally inspired and to inspire others to be the best “me” we each can possibly be.
- “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9 (NIV) — Ask God for your purpose; seek it out and He will reveal the answer to you!
- “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
I sincerely hope these thoughts help fuel your thinking towards the discovery of your own dreams and ultimate purpose. I CAN’T WAIT to dive deeper into the content of this blog, “Dream. Create. Repeat.” as we discover the beauty of living a life full of purpose, on purpose.
